Simon, Rob (Non-member) and myself took a trip down to Butser west in Simon's VW camper in the hope of some flying. It started off in usual Butser fashion with not enough wind so we practiced ground handling and Simon went para-skiing. After a while the wind picked up to soarable strength and seemingly everyone took off at the same time. It was good to get some soaring in, even if it was like dodgems! I ended up landing after turning to avoid someone straight into a horrible bit of sink which left me with no choice but a bottom landing. Walking back up the hill was tricky as the track had a very deep snow drift, upto thigh high in places!
By the time I got back to take off everyone had landed and the wind had dropped again so it was back to watching Simon para-ski. Most people decided to call it a day at this point but I stayed to pratice ground handling. I'm glad I did as the wind can on strong again and I had a lovely 20 minutes in the air at sunset. My best flight this year and I finally managed to top land Butser, yay!
