Butser West – 19th Feb

Very nice flying the morning of the 19th. Cold, sunny, strong and thermic. Phone battery died some after phoning the farmer so couldn’t send twitter alert. Along with John the modeller I had the place to myself. Difficult to core strong thermals due to their size it was good practice after the winter dull. Max heights 3/400ft ATO. After a couple of hours other pilots joined me and I was glad of the company.

Harting 13th Feb

Lovely day at Harting even the sun came out to play.  Hand to land to warm up as my right hand went dead after an hour dispite ski gloves and liners...

Where was everybody?

Club Repack 27th March

Dear Sky Surfer

The 2010 repack will take place in Hamble on the 27th March. Cost is £5 and Bill from the BHPA will be on hand again to give assistance.

This is an important safety event, in previous years we have had a number of instances where pilots at the event have discovered packing errors they have been flying with for some time and their chutes would not have opened. Remember, these things can and do save lives – make sure yours is inspected and properly packed.

There is an application form on the Yahoo Group files area.

When I have a completed form with payment your place will be confirmed. Details of the day will be circulated just prior to the event.

Note cheques may not be cashed until after the event, depends on when I have time.

Butser West face - 1st February 2010

Monday afternoon - turned up at Butser West after a very long run of bad luck and absolutely no flying for far too many months. Met up with familiar faces and had a grand ol' chin wag. Simon had been flying earlier and landed after being concerned over the strength. It was mighty cold I must say, Although my lovely new Advance flying jacket was keeping me just right, the hands were losing the battle badly. After the natter had finished a couple headed home and the remaining die hards went to the front, thinking that the gusts had backed off. They had! We grabbed our kit and as we returned to the face, the clouds disappeared, the air got warmer and the sun was refreshing! We all managed a few flights and I'm sure there's some video footage to come.

I've attached a few piccies from my mobile - poor quality but shows the afternoon's floating nicely.

Butser Hill 01-02-10 PG

Well Butser Hill has eluded all our expectations in the last few weeks and been astonishingly good!
Four of us, Mark Johnson, Ken, Paul Cashman and myself had about 20 wonderful minutes and moments of bobbing up and down in what felt like a fairly warm evening in the early February sun.. Roll on spring!
